Dr. Khurram H. Khan is a distinguished Clinical Professor and Chairman of the Department of Podiatric Medicine at Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine. With a robust academic and clinical career spanning over two decades, Dr. Khan has made significant contributions to podiatric medicine, specializing in comprehensive foot and ankle care, diabetic foot management, and advanced wound healing.
Dr. Khan earned his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree from Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine in 2001, following his Bachelor of Arts in Biology from New York University. He completed his residency in podiatric surgery at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, where he served as Chief Resident. His extensive training laid a strong foundation for his career, which has been marked by excellence in patient care, education, and research.
In his current role at Temple University, Dr. Khan mentors students and residents, oversees clinical education, and chairs the Curriculum Committee. He is actively involved in several other committees, including the Academic Counsel and the Admissions Committee. His dedication to academic excellence is reflected in his numerous awards, including the TUSPM Student Choice Award for Clinician of the Year, which he has received multiple times.
Dr. Khan's research interests are vast, with a focus on diabetic foot complications, wound care, and innovative treatments for lower extremity conditions. He is a primary grant reviewer for the National Institute of Health and has served as a principal investigator for several clinical trials.
Professionally, Dr. Khan is board certified by the American Board of Podiatric Medicine and the American Board of Foot & Ankle Surgery. He holds fellowships with the American College of Foot & Ankle Surgeons and the American College of Podiatric Medicine. His clinical expertise extends to the Leonard S. Abrams Center for Advanced Wound Healing, where he provides specialized care for patients with complex foot and ankle conditions.
Outside his professional commitments, Dr. Khan is dedicated to community service, having volunteered for diabetic foot screenings and other health initiatives. Diabetic Foot Complications and Management: Focus on advanced wound healing, limb salvage, and the development of innovative treatment protocols for high-risk diabetic patients, including the study of Charcot foot and related conditions.
Innovative Treatments for Lower Extremity Conditions: Exploration of new therapeutic approaches, including regenerative medicine, advanced wound care products, and the use of botulinum toxin for pain management and pressure reduction in the foot.
Clinical Outcomes and Health Economics in Podiatric Medicine: Research on the effectiveness of electronic medical records in reducing amputations, cost-benefit analysis of different treatment modalities, and the impact of clinical protocols on patient outcomes and healthcare costs.
Podiatric Surgery and Anatomical Studies: Detailed anatomical and histological studies of foot and ankle structures, surgical techniques for the treatment of foot and ankle conditions, and the use of imaging technologies in podiatric surgery.
