Clerkships

All podiatric medical school graduates complete a standard three-year surgical residency program. The podiatric medicine and surgery residency is a resource-based, competency-driven, assessment-validated program that consists of three years of postgraduate training in inpatient and outpatient medical and surgical management. The sponsoring institution provides training resources that facilitate the residents' sequential and progressive achievement of specific competencies.

Podiatric Medicine and Surgery Residency (PMSR)

A PMSR resident is trained in the breadth of Podiatric healthcare. Completion of the residency leads to the following certification pathways — the American Board of Podiatric Medicine (ABPM) and foot surgery of the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery (ABFAS).

Podiatric Medicine and Surgery Residency with a credential in Reconstructive Rearfoot/Ankle Surgery (PMSR/RRA).  

In addition to the standard Podiatric Medicine and Surgery Residency, the added credential in Reconstructive Rearfoot/Ankle Surgery (PMSR/RRA) is available with some residencies. These residencies can provide a sufficient volume and diversity in reconstructive rearfoot and ankle procedures and are approved grant an added credential in RRA. Completion of a Podiatric Medicine and Surgery Residency with the added credential leads to the RRA certification pathway of ABFAS.

Office of Graduate Placement

The Office of Graduate Placement is located through the director’s office. The Graduate Placement Office has periodic meetings about the application process as well as preparation for interviews. This office also organizes daily meetings during the summer/fall, in which residency programs come to TUSPM and offer presentations on their programs.

Surgical Residency Program

TUSPM is affiliated with the Temple University Health System Podiatric Surgical Residency Program, which provides quality training for its graduates. The program is a comprehensive three-year surgical residency program through the Department of Podiatric Surgery and is fully integrated into the Temple University Health System. The Temple University Hospital Podiatric Residency Program produces well-rounded physicians and surgeons through its emphasis on limb salvage, trauma, and reconstructive surgery.
