Laura P. Virtue-Delayo, D.P.M. '01

Dr. Virtue-Delayo, DPM, is the President of the Pennsylvania Podiatric Medical Association.  It is amongst the busiest divisions of the APMA in the country.  Pennsylvania introduces the most proposals annually while advocating for PA podiatrists. Dr. Virtue works in a large multi-specialty practice in Northeast Pennsylvania. She is a single mom to her three kids, two dogs, and one cat.

Dr. Virtue graduated from TUSPM in 2001 and served her residency at CMC in Scranton, PA.  While there, Dr. Virtue attended board meetings for PPMA as a representative for Lackawanna County.  In 2012, the late Dr. Marc Karpo, DPM ‘82 suggested she consider serving on the board and she’s been a board member ever since. Dr. Virtue enjoys serving on the board and contributing to the advancement of her profession through PPMA’s many activities.

As President, Dr. Virtue strives daily to increase student recruitment.  She expects everyone on the PPMA board to reach out to at least 3 Pennsylvania colleges every 90 days to increase awareness of podiatry among undergrads. Dr. Virtue advocated for this same approach nationwide and it was adopted by the APMA.  She hopes her enthusiasm for the profession serves as a catalyst for board members from every state to engage students to build the profession.

Dr. Virtue is the driving force behind a new initiative termed “Problems Meeting”, the first of which is slated for this spring.  It’s a 2-hour member driven session for DPM’s to engage one another on such relevant topics as OSHA compliance, HIPPA, hiring practices and other important operational concerns.

Dr. Virtue prides herself on advising and mentoring new graduates.  She believes loving what you do is contagious for both patients and colleagues alike.  She encourages new Podiatrists to embrace the profession and become active in the PPMA.
