Interview with Dr. Kinna Patel '11

Dr. Kinna Patel is the newest member of the Alumni Relations Board. Originally from Florida, Dr. Patel currently helps run a private practice in Atlanta, Georgia, primarily conducting minimally invasive surgery from the office. Many members of Dr. Patel’s family are in the medical field, which led Dr. Patel to shadow several physicians while studying at NYU. After undergrad, Dr. Patel was drawn to podiatry for its many perks, namely the work/ life balance and numerous surgical privileges in the field after only three years of residency: “You can really make the field what you want to make it,” Dr. Patel said. After finishing at TUSPM, Dr. Patel ditched the cold and took residency in Miami.

Dr. Patel was drawn to TUSPM for the academics, and she wasn’t let down. “Our clinic was amazing…when I compared myself to a lot of my co-residents, you just see a vast difference in the quality of education we got at Temple,” said Dr. Patel. This is the main reason Dr. Patel feels motivated to give back to the community through a presence on the board. Dr. Patel is interested in helping start a mentoring program through the board, and Dr. Pate; emphasizes networking more than anything else, as staying in touch with the TUSPM doctors continues to benefit Dr. Patel’s career. “I think the biggest way to continue to learn is networking and keeping in touch with people,” said Dr. Patel.

In her free time, Dr. Patel is an avid volunteer for the Humane Society, fostering dogs and helping them find good homes. Dr. Patel is also an avid hiker and frequently takes her dogs on hikes around the outskirts of Atlanta. In terms of advice, Dr. Patel once more emphasized networking and not burning any bridges. Podiatry is a small profession, and Dr. Patel is a strong advocate for keeping the community close.
