Dr. Renee Vekkos is President of the Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine Alumni Association. Dr. Vekkos graduated from TUPSM in 1992 (then PCPM), and she valued her time at the School studying podiatry and making lifelong connections.
One of Dr. Vekkos’ proudest career accomplishments is being involved with the Alumni Association, first as the Vice President in 2018, and now as the President. Since joining the Alumni Association, Dr. Vekkos has worked to increase the diversity of the Board, so that all people can be represented and have a voice. One of the challenges, especially during the pandemic, is keeping alumni up-to-date and involved with the School.
In an effort to bring alumni together and overcome these challenges, the TUSPM Alumni Association is holding a Fall Golf Outing on Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at the RiverWinds Golf and Tennis Club in West Deptford, New Jersey. “The Alumni Association is planning to have 100 golfers,” said Dr. Vekkos. “There will be on course fun activities during the day to raise funds for the Alumni Association Scholarship Fund,” added Dr. Vekkos. If received well by alumni, the TUSPM Alumni Association hopes to make this an annual event.
The golf outing will benefit the TUSPM Alumni Association Scholarship Fund. "The outing is also a way to inform alumni about our goals, provide updates on the School and invite more alumni to get involved with TUSPM," said Dr. Vekkos
The Alumni Association is a board consisting of alumni from TUSPM and PCPM that plans events and raise money for student scholarships. It is imperative for alumni to be involved with the School so that scholarship money can be raised. “Aside from scholarships, the Alumni Association also is starting a mentorship program and it is a great way for young and excited professionals to network and make connections in the field”, said Dr. Vekkos.
If you love to golf and you appreciate the education you received at the school, Dr. Vekkos encourages you to sign up for the 2021 Fall Golf Outing. You can play as an individual, as a pair, or as a foursome, and there will be activities and exciting surprises during the day. There are also plenty of opportunities to volunteer for the event or to donate to the Scholarship Fund.
