The BMEF has established an endowed scholarship in dermatology in the amount of $100,000 for Temple students showing exemplary work, promise, and excellent clinical skills in dermatology.

The Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine (TUSPM) is pleased to be the recipient of an endowed scholarship from the Bako Medical Education Foundation, announced Dr. John A. Mattiacci, Dean of the Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine.  The grant of up to $100,000 will be received by TUSPM over a four year period, subject to certain conditions.
"The Dermatology Scholarship establishes a Student Research Assistant and will be awarded annually to a second or third year student who, working under faculty guidance, shows exemplary work and promise and excellent clinical skills," said Mattiacci. "In addition, TUSPM is fortunate to have on faculty Dr. Tracey C. Vlahovic, a recognized expert in lower extremity dermatology," said Mattiacci. "Dr. Vlahovic has been instrumental in the conception and design of the project description envisioned for the awardees of the Bako Medical  Education Foundation Scholarship," said Mattiacci.
Awardees will be involved in clinical trials in dermatologic research, pubications, and scientific posters. Collaboration with TUSPM's Gait Study Lab and Wound Care Center will be included.
"From a teaching perspective this generous scholarship funding from the Bako Medical Education Foundation will allow us to further integrate dermatology into the current curriculum, including biopsy workshops and the use of lasers," said Mattiacci. The dermatology program will become part of the infrastructure of the School's Center for Educational Excellence.
"The Foundation is pleased to provide this grant to Temple University's School of Podiatric Medicine," said Steven J. Berlin, DPM, FACFAS, a Foundation Board Member and Grants Committee Chair at the Bako Medical Education Foundation. "We are honored to partner with the School in the education and training of our future clinicians through their innovative lower extremity dermatology and podiatry curriculum."
The Bako Medical Education Foundation seeks to advance diagnostic excellence in the field of podiatry through education, empowerment, and inspiration.
