Definition

Internal Medicine is the study of the etiology, pathophysiology, clinical signs, symptoms and treatment of a wide variety of illnesses of the human body.

To familiarize the podiatry student with the language and the means by which the most common medical conditions are diagnosed and treated. In addition the inter-relationship of podiatric medicine and internal medicine will be emphasized.

Purpose

More and more podiatry is being integrated into the medical mainstream. The podiatry resident and attending will be expected to possess a core knowledge of internal medicine so he/she may function as an equal practitioner in the clinical arena.
