Foot and Ankle Institute
The Foot and Ankle Institute, located on the 800 block of Cherry Street (directions), is the largest facility of its kind in the Philadelphia area and one of the most comprehensive centers for podiatric treatment in the world. The Foot and Ankle Institute's expert team of podiatric specialists provide full diagnostic and treatment services for the lower extremities in the areas of surgery, orthopedics, physical therapy and medicine. All treatment is directed by members of the college's faculty, aided by third and fourth-year students at TUSPM and a number of allied health professionals. For patients who prefer to see a particular physician, they may do so by directly requesting an appointment with them.
Ambulatory Surgical Center
Our state-of-the-art Ambulatory Surgical Center (ASC) at the Foot & Ankle Institute offers common surgical procedures on an outpatient basis while maintaining the same level of quality care that is associated with TUSPM. In addition to its convenience, the ASC offers personalized care and education for each patient that visits the clinic. There are two surgical suites in the ASC; it is here that our clinicians perform surgery on an out-patient basis. Anesthesia services are provided by fully licensed anesthesiologists. Additionally, the ASC is staffed with a full-time nurse manager and ORT/Protocol Instructor. Part-time nurses are used to staff the Post Anesthesia Recovery Unit and Preoperative Holding area as needed, and students and surgical residents are used as assistants to the surgeon.
All third-year podiatric medical students rotate through the ASC in one-month rotations and learn the aspects of surgical patient care and surgical protocol. Students are assigned a patient load and follow the patient from the pre-operative phase until discharge. Many students will continue to follow the patients into the post-operative period as they return to the Foot & Ankle Institute for their follow-up visit.
Diabetic Center of Excellence
The Diabetic Center of Excellence provides the same full diagnostic and treatment services as the Foot and Ankle Institute at a convenient location on Temple University’s Health Sciences Campus. Though the Center focuses on diabetes treatment, wound care and amputation prevention, it also offers complete podiatric medical care for all patients. The Center is located at the intersection of Broad and Allegheny streets at:
3223 N. Broad Street
Suite 150
Philadelphia, PA 19140
The Center is accessible via SEPTA on the Broad Street line North from Center City to the Allegheny stop.
