DEFINITION OF THE COURSE
Neuroscience comprises the study of the structure and function of the nervous system at different levels of organization, from ionic movements across neuronal membranes to the transmission of information at synapses, the function of networks of neurons, the processing of sensory information and motor commands, ultimately leading to higher cortical functions such as cognition. The course will be presented through lectures, handouts, audiovisual aids, case history presentations, and laboratory exercises.
OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE
Upon successful completion of the neuroscience course, the student will:
PURPOSE OF THE COURSE
The nervous system serves as the site of integration of many functions of the body. The purpose of the neuroscience course is to familiarize students with both neuroanatomy and neurophysiology, especially in relation to normal and pathological function in the lower extremity. The course will help prepare students for courses in pharmacology, podiatric medicine, biomechanics and clinical neurology.
