TUSPM Scholarships

Due to the generous donations of our alumni and other supporters of TUSPM, the College was able to award over $550,000 in scholarship money to incoming first year students and over $850,000 to more than 135 other students for the 2007-08 academic year.

Scholarships and awards which are available to TUSPM students include:

A number of other scholarships from the Fund for Podiatric Medical Education are also available to TUSPM students as well as students at other college of podiatric medicine.

Richard E. Adler, D.P.M. Scholarship
Awarded to a third-year student who has demonstrated academic excellence and service to the community. Given by Dr. Richard E. Adler, a 1977 graduate of PCPM. 

Alumni Association Scholarship
Established by the TUSPM Alumni Association to be presented to a second or third-year student who has documented academic achievement, demonstrated leadership abilities, involvement in campus activities, and has a demonstrated financial need.

James E. Bates, D.P.M. Presidential Scholarship
Awarded to fourth-year students who have established an outstanding record of academic accomplishment, service to TUSPM and community, and personal and professional integrity. Given by the colleagues, friends, and family of Dr. Bates, the founding President of PCPM from 1963 until 1995 when he retired and became Chancellor.

Briskin Sitkoff Memorial Scholarship Fund
Established in 1993 by Harold Sitkoff, D.P.M., POD ’41 and Irma Briskin Sitkoff in memory of Arthur Briskin, D.P.M., POD ’43, and Marjorie Cohen Sitkoff D.P.M., POD ’44, and in 1995 by Irma Briskin Sitkoff in memory of Harold Sitkoff, D.P.M., POD ’41, to provide scholarships for third-year students in the School of Podiatric Medicine based on financial need and academic excellence.

Dr. John Buckholz and Dr. Harold Vogler Surgical Scholarship Fund
Established in 1991 to provide scholarships for fourth-year podiatry students based on clinical qualifications and recommendations from the surgery department.

Lynn Catapano, D.P.M. (POD ’86) Memorial Scholarship Fund
Established in 1992 by family, friends and classmates to provide scholarships for second-year podiatry students.

Class of 1989 Clinical Instruments Scholarship Fund
Established in 1989 by members of the Class of 1989 to provide for scholarships to help second-year podiatry students pay for clinical instruments.

Tammy Clemons Fund
Established in 2001 by Tammy Clemons’ classmates in her memory to provide scholarships to fourth-year podiatry students who have demonstrated academic achievement and financial need, with preference to active members of the Student National Podiatric Medical Association.

Andrea Delgado, M.D. Memorial Scholarship Fund
Established in 1984 by Dr. and Mrs. Andrew, POD ’52, Delgado and friends to provide scholarships for fourth-year podiatry students who demonstrate academic achievement and community service.

J. David Derr, D.P.M. Memorial Scholarship
Awarded to third-year students who have excelled academically, have a record of service to TUSPM and colleagues, and a demonstrated financial need. Made possible through the estate of J. David Derr, D.P.M. Dr. Derr was commissioned in the Air Force following his graduation from the Temple School of Chiropody in 1958. He opened a practice in Idaho after his tour of duty, but returned to the Air Force, where he spent the rest of his career. He left his entire estate to TUSPM for scholarships. Five awards of approximately $4,000 each are given to third-year students, and Dr. Derr's bequest also helps to fund Merit Scholarships for incoming students.

D. Richard DiNapoli, D.P.M. Memorial Scholarship
Awarded to a student in the D.P.M./Ph.D. program who demonstrates a commitment to the completion of the program, academic excellence, dedication to the profession, and financial need or to a fourth-year student who demonstrates an interest in and commitment to the advancement of surgical treatment of the foot and ankle, dedication, integrity, and financial need. Given by friends, family, and colleagues of Dr. DiNapoli, a 1985 graduate who died in 1994. He served as Chairman of the Board of the Podiatry Institute and was President of the New Hampshire Podiatric Medical Association.

T. George Downs Scholarship Fund
Established in 1991 by Mr. Downs to provide scholarships for podiatric medicine students with financial need.

Foot and Ankle Associates of North Carolina Scholarship Fund in Honor of Shirley Thompson and Mary Kinard
Established in 2005 by Stephen Kinard, D.P.M., POD ’94, and Clarence M. Stewart, D.P.M., POD ’95, to provide scholarships for upcoming fourth-year students enrolled in the School of Podiatric Medicine who are active members of the Student National Podiatric Medical Association.

Allen E. Forsythe, D.P.M. Memorial Scholarship Fund
Established in 1999 by a bequest from Allen Forsythe, D.P.M., POD ’37, to provide scholarships for incoming podiatry students who have excellent academic credentials and financial need.

Betty Souder Frese Scholarship Fund
Established in 1998 by Herman Frese, SBM ’49, to provide scholarships for third-year podiatry students who have excelled academically and who demonstrate financial need.

Dr. Gallman-Stelmach Endowed Scholarship Fund
Established in 2004 by M. Doris Stelmach, D.P.M., POD 43, in memory of her husband, W. Peter Stelmach, M.D., her brother, Edmund F. Gallman, D.P.M. and her son, Peter Stelmach, M.D. to provide annual scholarships to third- or fourth-year School of Podiatric Medicine students with financial need who show an interest in, and aptitude for, the study of metabolic diseases.

James V. Ganley, D.P.M. Memorial Scholarship
Awarded to a fourth-year student who has demonstrated interest and accomplishment in podopediatrics. Dr. Jim Ganley was a person who was loved by everyone who knew him. He was recognized as an outstanding teacher, scholar, practitioner, and gentleman. A 1954 graduate of Temple, he taught podopediatrics at TUSPM until his death in 1993.

Georgia Student Scholar Aid Fund Award
Awarded to a first-year student who is a resident of the state of Georgia at the time of matriculation, adheres to the ideals of the podiatric medical profession, has leadership qualities, and a demonstrated financial need. Donated by Dr. and Mrs. E. Dalton McGlamry with additional donations from Dr. Alan Stacey Banks.

Goldsmith-Greenfield Scholarship
Funded by Robert K. Greenfield and Berta Goldsmith. Dr. Greenfield was a trustee from 1967 until 1991, serving the last two years as chairman of the board. Mrs. Goldsmith, a long-time contributor to TUSPM, at her death in her 100th year directed Mr. Greenfield to organize a foundation. Gifts from the Goldsmith-Greenfield Foundation have funded this scholarship. Presented to a first-year student who has excelled as an undergraduate and has demonstrated financial need.

William L. Goldfarb, D.P.M. Memorial Scholarship
Awarded to a fourth-year student who has demonstrated academic excellence and outstanding services to his/her classmates, TUSPM, and the podiatric profession. Donated by friends, family, and colleagues of Dr. Goldfarb, who was a Trustee of PCPM from 1975 until his death in 1975. Dr. Goldfarb founded the Hershey Seminar, one of the most continuously successful surgical meetings in the country.

E. Lewis Gray Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship honors the memory of a member of the PCPM Class of 1995 who died at the end of his second year as a student. The money for the scholarship was raised by the Student National Podiatric Medical Association (SNPMA). The scholarship is presented to a second-year African-American student and member of SNPMA who has a demonstrated financial need and leadership qualities. 

Stanley Grode, D.P.M. Memorial Scholarship Fund
Established in 1991 by the family, friends and colleagues of Stanley Grode, D.P.M. to provide scholarships for fourth-year students with financial need who have excelled in the study of the anatomical sciences, and who have contributed to the science of anatomy through research or publication.

Dr. G. Elmer Harford Memorial Scholarship
Awarded to a second-year student who has excelled in courses in the anatomical sciences, is a member of the Stirling-Harford Anatomical Society, ranked in the top 50% of his/her class, and has a demonstrated financial need. Donated by the Estate of Dr. G. Elmer Harford, his friends and colleagues. Dr. Harford was full-time professor at PCPM. He taught Anatomy and was considered to be the authority in his field. He remained on the faculty until his retirement.

Felix A. Hess Scholarship Fund
Established by Leslie A. Hess, D.P.M., POD ’79, to provide scholarships for podiatry students who are in the top half of the class and who demonstrate financial need.

Ruth Hess (EDU ’78) Scholarship Fund
Established by Leslie A. Hess, D.P.M., POD ’79, to provide scholarships for podiatry students who demonstrate academic excellence in biochemistry and financial need.

Leonard Hymes, D.P.M. Memorial Scholarship
Awarded to a fourth-year student who has shown outstanding commitment to the profession of podiatric medicine through his/her humanistic service to others as well as academic excellence, citizenship, and a record of service to classmates. Dr. Leonard Hymes was a member of the faculty from 1964 until his death in 1983.

Edwin J. and Helen L. Kay Memorial Scholarship Fund
Established in 2005 by a bequest from Helen L. Kay to provide scholarships for podiatry students with financial need.

Leon E. Kehr, D.P.M. Scholarship Fund
Established in 1999 by Leon E. Kehr, D.P.M., POD ’53, to provide scholarships for third-year podiatry students in the top half of their class who have been involved in community activities and who demonstrate financial need.

Charles (POD ’23, ’34) and Alice (SBM ’27) Krausz Scholarship Fund
Established by Charles Krausz, D.P.M., former dean and professor emeritus of the School of Podiatric Medicine, and friends in 1992 to provide scholarships for third-year podiatry students who excel academically, demonstrate financial need and provide service to the school.

Kevin Mahan Memorial Scholarship
Established by the TUSPM Board of Trustees in memory of Kevin Mahan, older brother of TUSPM Dean and Vice President for Academic Affairs Kieran Mahan, D.P.M.

Edwin B. Martin, Jr., D.P.M. Memorial Scholarship
Awarded to the third-year student who has demonstrated academic excellence and service to his or her classmates through involvement in campus organizations and the community. Given by friends, family, and colleagues of Dr. Martin, a graduate of the class of 1974. After completing a residency program at Valley Forge Medical Center under the direction of Dr. James Ganley, Dr. Martin returned to his hometown of Fayetteville, NC, where he opened a practice and was active in the North Carolina Podiatric Medical Society.

Bernard and Susan Master Scholarship Fund
Established in 1993 by Bernard Master to provide scholarships for students in the School of Podiatric Medicine.

Gilbert Master, D.P.M. (POD ’38) Scholarship Fund
Established in 1992 by Bernard Master to provide scholarships to first-year podiatry students based on academic excellence and involvement with school activities.

Leona Master Scholarship Fund
Established in 1993 by Bernard Master to provide scholarships for students in the School of Podiatric Medicine.

E. Dalton McGlamry, D.P.M. Scholarship
Awarded to a fourth-year student who has ranked within the top 20% of his/her class in the first three years of surgery grades. Made possible through the generosity of the family, friends, colleagues, and former residents of Dr. McGlamry, one of the giants of podiatry. A 1954 graduate of Temple, Dr. McGlamry is a pioneer in residency training for podiatric medicine and surgery. A founder of PCPM, he served on the board in the 1960s. He is an author, lecturer, surgeon, and gentleman, and has served as president of the American Podiatric Medical Association.

LeGrande Newman, D.P.M. Scholarship Fund
Established in 1995 by family, friends and colleagues of Dr. Newman, former associate dean of academic affairs, to provide scholarships for podiatry students with financial need.

Louis (POD ’35) and Ruth Newman Scholarship Fund
Established in 1993 by Andrew Newman to provide scholarships for fourth-year podiatry students with financial need and who excel in surgery.

Kate L. Paine Memorial Scholarship Fund in Peripheral Vascular Disease
Established in 1988 by Leslie A. Hess, D.P.M., POD ’79, in honor of a bequest from Kate Paine to provide scholarships for fourth-year podiatry students.

Paul R. Quintavalle, Sr., D.P.M. Scholarship Fund
Established by family, friends and colleagues of Paul Quintavalle, D.P.M., POD ’40, former chairman of the board of the Pennsylvania College of Podiatric Medicine, to provide scholarships for podiatry students based on academic excellence, financial need, compassion to patients and commitment to the community.

Dr. and Mrs. Richard R. Roccapriore Scholarship Fund
Established in 2000 by Richard R. Roccapriore, D.P.M., POD ’53, to provide scholarships for podiatry students with financial need.

Herbert Rothfeld, D.P.M. Scholarship
Established in 1998 to provide scholarships for second-year podiatry students who have the highest grade point average in anatomy.

Frank H. Rubin, D.P.M., ’43 Memorial Fund in Podiatric Medicine
Established in 2004 by Gladyce F. Rubin to honor the memory of her husband, who was widely respected for his dedication to podiatric medicine and the welfare and dignity of his patients, to provide an annual award to a graduating student who has demonstrated excellence in podiatric surgery, and an annual scholarship to a third- or fourth-year student with financial need who demonstrates outstanding attributes of performance, compassion, enthusiasm and commitment to patient services.

School of Podiatric Medicine Alumni Association Endowed Scholarship and Annual Award
Established in 2004 by the Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine Alumni Association to provide an annual scholarship to a student with financial need and to provide for an annual award to an outstanding graduating student.

Dr. and Mrs. Jack Schreffler Scholarship Fund
Established in 1999 by Jack M. Schreffler, D.P.M., POD ’56, to provide scholarships for podiatry students who demonstrate financial need.

Shirley Seave Memorial Scholarship Fund
Established in 1999 by Edwin Seave, D.P.M., POD ’43, LAW ’51, to provide scholarships for podiatry students who demonstrate academic ability, leadership and financial need.

Lillian K. Seibert (POD ’43) Scholarship Fund
Established in 1998 by Ruth Seibert, EDU ’51, to provide scholarships for School of Podiatric Medicine students who have demonstrated academic achievement and financial need.

J. E. Smaha Memorial Scholarship Fund
Established in 1986 by Paul G. Smaha, D.P.M., POD ’68, to provide scholarships for fourth-year podiatry students based on academics, leadership and financial need.

Manning Smith, D.P.M., (POD ’39) Memorial Scholarship Fund
Established in 1996 by his wife, Ethel, to provide scholarships to students in the School of Podiatric Medicine who demonstrate financial need.

Bohdan Terlecky Scholarship Fund
Established in 1997 by friends and colleagues of Bohdan Terlecky, CLA ’70, MED ’75, a former faculty member, to provide scholarships for third-year podiatry students who have excelled in microbiology and who demonstrate financial need.

Samuel Turrisi, D.P.M. (POD ’48) Memorial Scholarship Fund
Established in 1997 by classmates, family and friends to provide scholarships for students in the School of Podiatric Medicine.

Thomas S. Union, Sr. and Family Scholarship Fund
Established in 1995 by Thomas S. Union, Jr., D.P.M., POD ’68, and Joseph M. Union, D.P.M., POD ’74, to provide scholarships to second-year podiatry students who are residents of Georgia and demonstrate leadership, high academic ability and financial need.

Dr. James Conwell White and Nancy L. White Scholarship Fund
Established in 2004 by James Conwell White, D.P.M., POD ’52, to provide scholarships for students with financial need who are enrolled in the School of Podiatric Medicine.

Gartha E. Wolfe, D.P.M. Memorial Scholarship Fund
Established in 1989 through a bequest from Dr. Wolfe to provide scholarships for second-year podiatry students in the top half of the class who demonstrate financial need.

Dr. and Mrs. William Ziegler Scholarship Fund
Established in 1997 by William Ziegler, D.P.M. POD ’48, to provide scholarships for students in the School of Podiatric Medicine.

Louis Zulli, D.P.M. Scholarship Fund
Established in 1996 by Leon Kehr, D.P.M. and friends, students and colleagues of Louis Zulli, D.P.M., POD ’53, to provide scholarships for students in the School of Podiatric Medicine.
